Relay for Life Bowling Fundraiser

On Friday, April 4th, the Delphos location participated in a fundraiser to support their Relay for Life Team, Kruisin’ for a Miracle. The Delphos Bowling Alley hosted over 85 attendees who enjoyed bowling, a silent auction, a 50/50 drawing, and socializing with fellow employees.

Donna Burgei (Accounts Payable Supervisor) brought home the traveling trophy by winning the 3rd game of bowling. The winner of the 50/50, Larry Burgei (husband of Donna) gladly donated his half back to the Relay Team. A cake donated by Dick Schlerth of Inside Sales was a hit in the silent auction, going for $50.  With the money raised from the silent auction, the 50/50, and bowling – K & M Tire’s Relay for Life team collected $ 3384. K & M generously matched the money raised at the event. The Relay for Life will gain $6768 from this great event.

In more than 5,200 communities and 20 countries, Relay For Life events comprise the signature fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. At Relay For Life events, communities across the globe come together to honor cancer survivors, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against a disease that has already taken too much. Relay For Life teams camp out overnight and take turns walking or running around a track or path at a local high school, park, or fairground. Events are up to 24 hours long, and because cancer never sleeps, each team is asked to have at least one participant on the track at all times. Each Relay For Life event is special to its community, but the movement's true power lies in the combined commitment of thousands of participants, volunteers, and supporters to help the American Cancer Society save lives from cancer.

The values of the Relay for Life Team at K & M reflect those set forth by the company. K & M Tire values making a positive difference in the community and possessing a servant’s attitude. The employees of the company strive to live with integrity, chara

K&M Tire Conducts United Way Campaign

This year, K&M Tire’s United Way campaign features a “Pie in Your Eye Contest.” Four brave employees volunteered to potentially have a pie thrown in their face in efforts to raise money for the United Way. Co-workers can vote for who should receive the pie by donating to the United Way. Collection containers with the volunteers’ photo have been placed in the company’s break room. The employee who collects the most money during the month of October will be the “winner”.

Candidates to receive the pie in their face are Joe Schaffer, First Shift Warehouse Supervisor; Kevin Knebel, Inventory/Pricing Manager; Kevin Schnipke, Vice President of Operations; and Jamie Tyrrell, Inside Sales Manager. The “winner” will be announced Tuesday, October 29. Employees will have the opportunity to purchase raffle tickets for the honor of placing the pie in the “winner’s” face after work on Wednesday, October 30.

Employees can also donate to the United Way through payroll deduction. Forms were distributed to employees.

The United Way campaign at K&M Tire kicked off on Friday, September 27. United Way representatives and Gary Bright from the West Ohio Food Bank conducted a meeting to inform employees about how the United Way serves the community. The West Ohio Food Bank is one of many area organizations supported by the United Way. It offers many programs to area residents. Last year 7 million pounds of food was distributed with 2 million staying in Allen County. The West Ohio Food Bank serves 11 counties.

Other organizations benefitting from the United Way include senior citizen centers, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, crime victim support agencies and more. United Way touches the lives of many people in the community in a variety of ways.

K&M Tire matches all employee donations made to the United Way.
